Courtyard in the Castle

Courtyard in the Castle

This wonderful little courtyard was found inside the castle. Through the far end the old Baths can be found.

Personally, this is my favourite place in Jerez. it’s just perfect in so many little ways. the floor doesn’t line up with the walls, the stone is almost 600 years old, the olive tree has been there since time immortal, the amount of re-building that has gone on in just this small space is staggering. And yet it’s so calm. I’d need a -much- better camera to do the place justice.

The Cathedral in Jerez

The Cathedral

A beautiful old building, what you can’t see here is the man standing at the door plaintively gesturing to passer-by to come inside (custom is to give a small donation after looking around). But the Cathedral itself is a wonder of carving, glorious vaulted ceiling and just sheer internal space. I really like the flying butresses on it’s rather squat frame.
